"Heavy - too earthy. Gritty tannins - rose didn't like."

"A very nice, very typical Bordeaux. There is a bouquet of plum, black cherry and slight oak with additional flavors on the palate of cedar, mint and vanilla. After breathing for an hour or so in a glass, some earthy undertones begin to come through - including a tanned leather flavor. Left some for the next day and the nose really opened up. Clearly some notes of Brett on this one."

"A wonderful ripe and rich nose; layers of deep black fruit aromas that start from the bottom of the glass and emerge with a great deal of exuberance to attach to the nose, earthen, peppery, smoky, some age showing now in the funky secondary aromas that need to dissipate once the wine is opened; rich and ripe in the mouth, almost thick; lots of black cherry flavors layered with cassis, blackberry liqueur, and earth; as with all the wine of this vintage, no lack of acidity here; long and powerful at the finish; as is typical of this wine, always more coarse than elegant, but at this age (the wine’s, not mine) most welcome. (18.5/20)"

"Sweet fruit on the nose, ripe and rich with lots of tar and earth tones, smoke and pepper; sweet and ripe, but not balanced as well as the ’88 above; there is an overabundance of dry, woody tannins in the mid-mouth that reduces the appeal of the wine; finishes better with more fruit and citrus flavors to freshen the palate, but this is not a compelling wine and is a bit flat, even though it is intense and shows layers of fruit. (16.5/20)"
