Chateau Landat Bordeaux Red - 2005
I found Chateau Landat to be dusty, earthy, and full of ripe plum with a bit of tobacco. Chateau Landat is located in the Cissac part of Haut-Medoc, which is nestled between Paulliac and St. Estephe, so the wine itself is probably drawing from St. Estephe’s rustic feel and Paulliac’s bold fruit. While I liked Chateau Landat, I feel there’s something missing, and I think it’s structure. It’s a little monolithic and it took a good hour and some change to smooth out the tannins. There just wasn’t anything that reached out and grabbed me. This would probably pair well with a sirloin, or some nicely aged blue cheese. If you’re like me, try this wine because it’s fruity and affordable ($20). In the end, Sharon and I agreed that for $20, there are sooooooo many good California Cabs that smoke this Bordeaux.
